A Married Couple Becomes Agitated About Their Excessive And Abusive Drinking And Ponders Whether They Exhibit Any Signs Of Alcohol Dependency

Lenny and Angie have been married for three years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they decided to have children and so they willfully established an extraordinarily dynamic social life.

The basic issue, however, is that virtually everything they do socially is related to drinking. For example, all of the parties with friends, dinner engagements, happy hours, sporting events, and family get-togethers they patronize include drinking.

If they were casual drinkers this wouldn't be a major issue. Since they drink quite abusively, however, they are beginning to observe some obvious alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.

For instance, just two days ago Lenny was placed under arrest for his first DUI and has been calling off from work because of alcohol-related health issues. Furthermore, Lenny's last three performance reviews at work have been less than praiseworthy and he has begun to forget what he does or says while he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been going through sleep-related problems and his family is starting to display some disquiet about his drinking activities.

In a similar manner, Angie has been feeling dejected about life and to deal with this, she has been drinking more intensely than any time in the past seven months. In addition, Angie has been getting more than a few migraine headaches and experiencing very bad hangovers after drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling significantly less active when she gets up in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least once per week, and she has been getting some less than constructive criticism from her family members, coworkers, friends, and relatives about her unhealthy and abusive drinking.

One Monday evening while watching TV, Lenny and Angie went through the channels and discovered a captivating program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This TV program was a real source of discovery to Angie and Lenny because some of the alcohol facts that were gone over seemed like they were unshakably related to quite a few of the drinking difficulties Lenny and Angie had been experiencing.

With thoughts of the television program still fresh in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been displaying could be a signal that they are alcoholic or possibly becoming addicted to alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the therapists at the local drug and alcohol rehab facility to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking difficulties.

Ironically, although their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was apparent that Angie and Lenny were at the very least attending to their drinking issues, they were excited about finding out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in learning how they could appreciably reduce or eliminate the alcohol-related issues that had begun to worsen.

When Angie and Lenny went to bed that evening, they came to a decision that the next morning, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the alcohol treatment facility located just East of the State Capital. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to triumph over the alcohol-related problems that had materialized in their lives, they actually had the best night's sleep they could remember in the last five months.
