The Vicious Cycle Of Too Much Work And Heavy And Excessive Drinking And The Inspiration For Alcohol Therapy

Work was starting to be too frantic for a young police officer named Lonnie. Although he had only been on the police force for four years, he already had a reputation as an extremely hard worker who almost never turned down working overtime. In fact, he was now working twenty to twenty-five hours of overtime each week and, consequently, he felt like he was losing his hold on his personal life. What complicated the situation was the fact that Lonnie started going out drinking with a group of fellow officers after his shift.

Plainly Lonnie was in a psychological and health-related rut and going through some adverse signs of alcoholism. Where Lonnie truly observed alcohol related problems and alcoholism signs, on the other hand, was in his family life and in his marriage. His wife wasn't really a nag, but she commonly asked him to stay at home more with her and with the children rather than going through all of his money while drinking with his friends.

When he was really honest with himself, it was clear to Lonnie that his abusive and irresponsible drinking was adversely affecting his health, pocketbook, relationship with his family, and his work. So one Wednesday morning Lonnie got energized and decided to talk to Richard, a trusted old police officer buddy that he greatly admired.

Lonnie mentioned to Richard how abusive and careless drinking was negatively affecting his work, pocketbook, relationship with his family, and his health. Richard articulated to Lonnie that he understood totally because around twelve years ago, he too got involved in irresponsible and hazardous drinking. In point of fact Richard stated to Lonnie that abusive and careless drinking can create so many problems in a person's life that virtually everything of importance can be destroyed. And lastly, Richard recommended that Lonnie schedule an appointment with an alcohol therapist at the work-affiliated alcohol treatment center.

Due to the fact that his employee's assistance program was affiliated with this rehab facility, it was not only quite convenient but also very affordable to obtain treatment about his irresponsible and hazardous drinking. And since the staff at the substance abuse rehabilitation facility was competent, non-judgmental, and supportive, Lonnie would be able to get alcohol treatment that made sense to him and something he could follow through on.

After talking to his counselor about how his drinking was ruining his health, pocketbook, relationship with his family, and his work, Lonnie realized that he was burning the candle at both ends with his excessive work hours and his abusive and irresponsible drinking. Once he grasped the fact that he was digging himself into a rut, after detoxification and with the help of his doctor, and after twenty-five weeks in treatment, he was at last able to quit drinking and stop working overtime.

The outcome was that Lonnie perceived life in a different way now that he was in alcohol recovery and learned about alcoholism facts. Simply put, due to his alcohol therapy he not only noticed that he actually had more money now even though he was working far fewer hours each week, but he was more patient when interacting with his wife and his children, he felt better and more healthy, and he had more quality time to spend with his family. Strangely enough, now that he quit drinking, Lonnie and his wife were not only beginning to save some money for a different house but he also felt more energized and alert than anytime since he and his wife were married.
